THE 1991 PGA CHAMPIONSHIP
Colorful Arkansas everyman John Daly’s path to becoming the 1991 PGA Champion and the absolute pinnacle of the golf world was anything but traditional. In fact, it’s safe to say that John Daly has one of the most unlikely sports stories of all-time.
Born on April 28, 1966, John Daly began rippin’ butts and sinkin’ putts in Dardanelle, Arkansas at the age of 6.
I just chose golf because you don’t have to worry about what someone else is doing. All you have to worry about is what you’re doing and if you do something really good you feel good about yourself and you can say look I did it my way. You play bad or it something goes wrong you can only blame yourself you don’t have anyone else left to blame.

Flash forward to fifteen years later. The year is 1987. Daly, a total natural, turns pro at the ripe old of age of 21. Almost immediately, Daly earns his first pro victory at the 1987 Missouri Open.
Cut to just four years later, 1991, and an absolute underdog legend is born. Daly joins the PGA Tour and proceeds to literally win the PGA Championship with a three-stoke victory right off the bat!

Overnight, John Daly (also known as “Wild Thing”) goes from being the 11th alternate to The PGA Tour Rookie of the Year, The PGA Champion, and the undisputed hottest property in golf.

THE 1995 BRITISH OPEN
The first four majors that John Daly entered as the winner of a major were something special. Though his off-the-green partying kept his golf game from being top notch, Daly nonetheless loved hearing his name getting announced on the first tee as follows:
“John Daly, 1991 PGA Champion.”
In fact, Daly couldn’t get enough of it. So, in the spirit of his childhood idol, Jack Nicklaus, John Daly went ahead and beautifully conquered the British Open in 1995 in a playoff with Italian golfer Costantino Rocca at St. Andrews.
The victory instantly made him a member of the two-time major winner club.

It’s the way I was when I met them, it’s the way I was when we were together, it’s the way I was when we split it up, and it’s the way I’m going to be tomorrow. What’s so hard to understand?

In the end, thankfully, the Gallantry Man Legend that is John Daly pulled through. The love of his fans, family, and fellow players kept him going. In 2004, Daly not only won the Buick Invitational, but also earned the PGA Tour’s “Comeback Player of the Year” award.
Whenever you see John Daly playing great golf, you know his wife’s taking care of his needs. And when you see John Daly playing bad golf … Look, if you think about sex as much as I do, it can get tough out there in a golf tournament. You got good-looking women all over the place. Some of them take off their underpants and sit around the greens and lash you when you come up to putt. Women are always coming up to you in the parking lot and asking you to sign their boobs. I used to do that a lot, hundreds of times over the years, but … I don’t sign t*** anymore.

Through his rollercoaster of a life and career, John Daly has always not only lived his life on his terms, but also has maintained a very special relationship with his fans.
