AN INTRO TO TITANIUM EVERYDAY CARRY
1791. Great Britain. Legend William McGregor (yeah, he would definitely be a Gallantry Man today) discovers a new beautiful metal and aptly names it “Titanium” after the Titans, the mythical Greek family of giants, descendants of Uranus and Gaea, that once ruled the planet. Given that “titan,” as a noun, also describes a person, place or thing that stands out for its greatness of achievement, Titanium certainly remains a fitting and truly worthy name.
2021. Titanium, a premium, tough, minimalist, and remarkably lightweight (even lighter than stainless steel if you can believe it) material if there ever was one, is beloved by everyday carry enthusiasts everywhere. Absolutely stunning to behold, the rationale behind why titanium is extraordinarily popular for a wide array of EDC products is hardly a mystery. Synonymous with outstanding quality, unmatched reliability, and outstanding durability, titanium essentials really do last a lifetime. To put it another way, when the prepared everyday carry enthusiast goes for the titanium version of an item, said individual is really saying “I’m settling for nothing less than the absolute best”.
Look it, there’s nothing wrong with some good, old-fashioned aluminum, steel, or leather (when we bring wallets into the equation), but titanium these materials simply are not. We tremble at the thought that titanium wasn’t always so easy to obtain, but, in fact, it wasn’t. After all, isolating this element is no joke, requiring a much more sophisticated process than those elements which simply require smelting. The good news for all of us, however, is that titanium (which you can get anodized in any color that you want) has become far more widely available over the years.
In the end, there’s a reason that your typical titanium EDC item can carry along with it a higher price tag. Compared to other metals like stainless steel, it’s still a rare commodity.
